We will be working on our confine dives at the YMCA pool in Waycross, GA this Saturday from 8:30 till 5:00. Everyone is welcome to join us to work on their skills for the upcoming year. Entry free to the pool is free to certified divers with the rental of a tank or gear. If you have your own tanks, $10 per diver. A certified instructor will be available for refresher course, $99 (includes tanks and gear rental).

We will be taking a group to Blue Grotto May 5th. We will being leaving Hazlehurst at 7am and driving to Williston, FL arriving there around 11am. We will dive Blue Grotto Saturday and then drive to Live Oak, Florida and stay the night and dive Troy Springs State Park Sunday morning the 6th before returning to Hazlehurst Sunday afternoon.

Open Water SCUBA Class-April 21st & 28th

Our next Open Water SCUBA Class will be April 21st and 28th. We will be conducting academic studies at the dive shop from 9:00 am till 2:00 pm Saturday April 21st. The following Saturday we will have our confined water portion of the class at the Waycross YMCA “HEATED” Pool from 8:30 am till 5:00 pm. Class cost is $199.95 with the purchase of a Mask/Fin/Snorkel set from Waterdog Scuba, LLC. We also offer an online academic study option at and additional cost for those out of town that can’t make it to the shop on April 21st. For some of us, winter is upon us; for others, plans are underway to far off destinations. In either case this means completing that course we started sometime ago, stowing away the dive gear and breaking out the tropical picture show during these extra cold months. But does it have to mean we stop learning new things about diving? No.

There are many locations that will go right on diving through the winter, and in some cases, your diving will even increase. For the rest of us whose waters are great if you like ice skating but not if you want to dive (of course they are good for an SDI Ice Diving course), we still have some options to keep engaged in diving. One great course to take is nitrox. Nitrox is one of those courses that everyone should take for several reasons. Safety is a key concern in diving and anything that can be done to increase safety should be. What nitrox does is increases the amount of oxygen you breathe which decreases the amount of nitrogen you breathe; this in turn decreases the nitrogen uptake into your body, provided you dive nitrox according to air computers or tables. Each year we get a little older and our bodies do not process things as they used to. The way our muscles and tissues process nitrogen are no exception to that rule. Don’t be concerned! SDI Computer Nitrox Course

Longer Bottom Times. Shorter Surface Intervals. These are among the many benefits of diving Nitrox — a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen in which the concentration of oxygen is greater than that found in air. You’ve no doubt heard of Nitrox, and you probably know divers who use it. You also know that using Nitrox safely requires special training and certification.

Traditionally, becoming a Nitrox Diver required long hours in the classroom, learning how to work obscure formulas and use complex dive tables. No more. Through SDI’s on-line training program, you can complete most of the required academic study in the comfort and convenience of your home or office. As with all SDI programs, you’ll learn to dive Nitrox the modern way, using Nitrox-programmable dive computers instead of arcane formulas and complicated tables.

When you are done with the self-study portion of the course, you will meet with your SDI instructor to review your final exam (academic review) and to take part in a brief, practical application session. Here you will get hands-on experience with oxygen analyzers and Nitrox computers. Your instructor may even provide you with the opportunity to make one or more Nitrox dives. When you have completed the academic review and practical application sessions, your SDI Dive Center will order your permanent certification card. What could be easier? Hazlehurst/Jeff Davis Dive Team Meeting-January 21st, 2012

YOU ARE NEEDED…The Hazlehurst/Jeff Davis Volunteer Fire Department is looking for eager, self motivated and adventurous men and women for the Dive Team. This is a volunteer search and recovery team working not only in Hazlehurst and Jeff Davis County but assisting adjacent counties in water related incidents. You will not only be challenged but you will be trained in the proper use of the latest SCUBA Diving Equipment in the Public Safety Diving community, such as Full Face Mask, Under Water Communications, Dry Suits and Redundant Air Systems just to name a few. Divers and non-divers are needed.
We will be holding a meeting 8:30am Saturday January 21st at the Hazlehurst Fire Headquarters. We will discuss the 2012 training schedule and fund raising events. We will also meet and greet new team members.

We will be making back-to-back trips to Troy Springs State Park Saturday August 27th and September 3rd. We will leave the shop at 7:30am on Saturday arriving at Troy Springs around 11:00am. As usual we will stop at I-75 and US Hwy 129 in Jasper, Florida to pickup snacks and lunch around 10:00am. We are limited to 12 Open Water students for this checkout so make sure you are on the list. If you already have your C-card you are more than welcome to come along and work on your Advanced Diver Certification. Click here for directions.

ERD 1 Dive Class for Public Safety Divers-Aug 5th, 2011

This entry level emergency response diving course is designed to give the public safety diver the fundamental skills needed to safely function as part of a public safety dive team and is OSHA and NFPA compliant. Topics such as problem solving, tender skills, search patterns and evidence handling are covered just to name a few. Dive skills include executing search patterns, victim recovery, emergency procedures and decontamination procedures among others. ERD I also serves as a prerequisite to ERD Ops Components courses.

Class starts Friday Aug 5th at 6pm and runs all day Saturday Aug 6th. Addtional confied water session and checkout dive TBA. Contact waterdogscuba@bellsouth.net for more details.

SCUBA Class Aug. 13th 2011-Waycross YMCA

Our August 2011 SCUBA class will be held at the Waycross YMCA Pool August 13th from 8:30 am till 5pm. We will also have an academic class at Cobblestone Realty, Inc. 621 Tebeau Street Waycross, GA 31501 August 11th from 6pm till 9pm. Additional academic studies will be held in Hazlehurst at Waterdog Scuba, LLC for those who need it at a later date TBA. Academic studies can also be done online line @ Learn Online. Cost is $325 for this class and with equipment include except Mask, Fin and Snorkel.

MF&S packages can be purchased for Waterdog Scuba, LLC and all students who register for this class receive a 10% discount at time of purchase for their MF&S.
